The incident occurred on 24 August 2026 during the Test match in Colombo. During the fixture, Jaiswal struck Fernando with his head while playing on the field, prompting disciplinary review from match officials. Both Cricinfo and the ICC confirmed the sanction issued to the players for poor conduct.
Following the ruling, Jaiswal took the penalty but maintained his position. He stated that he acted appropriately during the heated moment. Speaking to Indulge Express, he insisted that India would continue to fight hard in their following games despite the recent clash.
