Prime Minister Mark Carney has called urgent national byelections for three Canadian seats. Voters in Brantford-Brant, Ontario; Châteauguay-Lacolle, Quebec; and Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, British Columbia will vote on August 31. Campaigning is already active, with major groups selecting candidates and locking in strategies. The Conservatives have vowed to press for federal probes on two top matters: construction oversight of the Gordie Howe bridge and Washington’s proposed tariff measures.
